The area around the lakes at the Vermilion Lakes is a soft boggy ground, so standing to take this photograph I was nervous about falling through. But the ground proved strong enough for me and my camera gear.

I tried to limit my path to the waters edge by using previously made paths, most likely built by the elk.

If you look closely on the water surface you will be able to see several rain drops.
